LAFF president, screenwriter Sayed Fouad, announced that the 10th edition of Luxor African Film Festival will take place from Friday 12 March to Thursday 18 March 2021.

Fouad underlined that the great Egyptian actor, Mahmoud Hemida, agreed to continue acting as the honorary president of the festival for its 10th edition, for the third year in a row, for his faith in the role the festival plays, and the extent of achievement of its principles, which are happily adopted by Hemida himself.

LAFF director, director Azza El Hosseiny, announced that the festival would be paying tribute to the star Hend Sabri for her outstanding career in the Arab film industry and her works, which hold a great artistic value in African cinema. Hend has previously participated in LAFF as a member of the long narrative competition jury during the LAFF’s first edition in February 2012.

LAFF will also pay tribute to the great director Ali Abdel KhaleK, who’s considered to be one of the most influential directors in the Egyptian film industry during the 1980s, and his works to be shining cinematic landmarks, as he participated along with his colleagues in shaping the new wave at the time.

Azza announced that, in celebration of the festival’s 10th anniversary, a book will be published about the Luxor African Film Festival and its achievements over the past decade, and its role on the artistic and Cultural fronts, as well as its influence on the African film industry.

Sayed Fouad added, "We are carefully observing the situation of the COVID-19 pandemic in Egypt and worldwide, as well as the movements of local and international film festivals, that are scheduled to take place before LAFF. We have thought of alternatives scenarios to realize an exceptional edition, befitting of celebrating the festival’s decade long achievements since its inception in supporting the film industry in Egypt and Africa, and there will be new and distinctive events during the upcoming edition”.
